| Notes: | Sitting in the constellation Scutum is this colorful open cluster discovered in 1681 by the German astronomer Gottfried Kirch. This is one of the most spectacular open clusters in the sky sporting almost 3,000 stars. An open cluster is a group of stars that were formed at roughly the same time in the same molecular cloud. This one is estimated to be over 200 million years old. |
