| Notes: | The Eagle Nebula is an emission nebula in the Constellation Serpens discovered by Swiss astronomer Jean-Philippe de Cheseaux in 1745 and contains an open cluster of stars and the famous "Pillars of Creation" which is the region in the center (to the back of the Eagle's head as shown in the image above) of star forming gas and dust. The nebula is about 6,500 light-years away. |
