| Notes: | Discovered around 1746 by Italian/French astronomer Jean-Dominique Maraldi originally thought it to be a nebula. It was eventually verified to be a cluster by William Herschel in 1783. This is one of the largest globular clusters in the sky at about 175 light years across and a little over 37,000 light years away. The cluster contains roughly 150,000 stars. |
