Re: Astrophotography Equipment

You absolutely can do some find AP with that setup although I would probably invest in a focal reducer and some kind of guiding setup. Either the 50D or D90 are capable of producing fine images with, or without modding. I would probably suggest you run for a while before modding to make sure this is...

Re: Dark Frames

Sorry, was on Christmas vacation. When the outside temp is roughly the same as the inside of my fridge, I can put my DSLR in the fridge (or freezer if that is a closer match to the outside temps) running the cables outside to a computer sitting on the kitchen counter. I then tell the computer to tak...

Re: Current status of the book Getting Started: Budget Astrophotography

I worked through most of the Thanksgiving holiday, ordered the last parts I needed for things in the book, completed the last of the large projects and have the first person running through corrections. I realistically expect at least fifteen more pages to be added for the expanded index, a couple o...

Re: Current status of the book Getting Started: Budget Astrophotography

Another good week for the book, moving along nicely. Even with the finalization and publishing of my other book, Messier Astrophotography Reference available here: http://www.amazon.com/Messier-Astrophotography-Reference-Allan-Hall/dp/1493766414/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1385335964&sr=8-1&keywords=mess...

Re: Current status of the book Messier Astrophotography Reference

It is done! The book is available instantly at the following URL: https://www.createspace.com/4525548 and will be on Amazon.com within 5-7 days. I hope to have a small website up for it tomorrow, have a kindle edition of it in a month or so, and we continue to work on the next book, Getting Started:...

Re: Current status of the book Getting Started: Budget Astrophotography

Another week, and some more great progress! Several more DIY projects completed, even one that required the assistance of my wife. Some may have been concerned that pushing out my Messier Astrophotography Reference in front of this one might have slowed this one down but in reality it gave it a shot...

Re: Current status of the book Messier Astrophotography Reference

The book has been proofed and has been sent up to the publisher for final checks. I expect a hard copy proof within a week or so and can see what all I missed :D Barring anything strange (stranger than normal that is), I am on schedule to have it go live on the 1st of December as planned. Current st...

Re: Current status of the book Getting Started: Budget Astrophotography

The last few weeks have been rather slow, mainly completing DIY projects which required some testing, several trips for supplies, etc. One of the big strengths in my opinion of Getting Started: Long Exposure Astrophotography is the structure of the book, how the sections build upon one another and k...

Current status of the book Messier Astrophotography Reference

Back when I was shooting all the Messier objects, even before finishing my first book, Getting Started: Long Exposure Astrophotography, I was keeping notes on shooting these targets. Since both the weather and my day job has kept me from making as much progress on my Getting Started: Budget Astropho...

Re: Current status of the book Getting Started: Budget Astrophotography

Had a good week for the book. I managed to get several sections I was working on last week into the book and a several more new pages. I currently have 12 DIY projects scheduled for inclusion (many of which I already completed for myself a while back so it is just a matter of getting construction pi...
